The difference between Houdini FX and Houdini Indie?

FX includes farm nodes. Unless you're planning to run a render farm, you probably don't need it.

— Indie comes with two render nodes, which is enough for your home rig!

Both versions give you full access to all the tools, including the HDK.

However, if you choose the FX version, it prevents you from using Indie HDAs.

Lastly, when you share a .hip file people will know you're not paying $3195/year license fee!!

(FX project files are saved as .hip, while Indie project files are saved as .hiplc. Indie can open FX files without any issues. However, if you open a .hiplc file
in FX, Houdini will run in Indie mode. If you modify and save the project, it will remain a .hiplc file.)
