In Gaston Leroux's novel "The Phantom of the Opera," the character known as Erik, or the Phantom, is described as wearing a variety of different outfits throughout the story.
However for his frequent visits of Paris opera house, he often wears white tie dress which would be considered appropriate for a formal opera event. White tie is the most formal dress code, often reserved for highly prestigious and ceremonial occasions. It is characterized by a black tailcoat, matching trousers with a stripe of satin on the sides, a white wing-collar shirt, a white bow tie, a white waistcoat, white marcella shirt and formal black patent leather shoes.However Eric the phantom often wear also white mask to conceal his identity and facial deformity and long black cape.
